Graduate High School with an Associate Degree

An Early College High School offers students the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree at no cost. The Waxahachie ISD Early College High School is provided in partnership with Navarro College and operates at Global High School. The Texas Education Agency has established a formal designation process for Early College High Schools to ensure that districts uphold the integrity of this educational model. This model is specifically designed, based on research, to support students who may not otherwise pursue higher education. The TEA Early College High School Blueprint guides this designation process and outlines six benchmarks, which set forth the foundational principles and standards for innovative collaborations between school districts and institutions of higher education.

Global High School Admission Policy

Global ECHS follows the recruitment and admission guidelines outlined in the TEA Blueprint for Early College High Schools in Texas.

The primary focus at Global ECHS is on providing students from underrepresented backgrounds (for example, at-risk, low-income, and/or first-generation college attendees) the opportunity to earn 60+ college credits free of charge while attending high school. As a designated Early College High School, we must target students from underrepresented backgrounds; however, we encourage students of all backgrounds to apply.

Global ECHS is available to any 8th-grade student or any high school student who meets the criteria below:

The student must complete the application.
The student must desire to be a part of the Global Early College High School’s program and be able to explain this in writing.
The student’s parents and/or guardian must want their child to be part of the program.
Both the parent/guardian must agree to abide by the standards of academic and behavioral expectations of Global High School.
Both parent and student must agree that the ultimate goal is to graduate from ECHS with college credits as planned.

In accordance with the Texas Education Agency rules for Global ECHS Blueprint Benchmark 1, academics, discipline, state assessments, and/or teacher recommendations cannot be considered in the selection process.

- Junior High Information Tours
  - The principal, assistant principal, and counselor will attend Coleman JH, Finley JH, and Howard JH and give a presentation to every 8th grader.
  - A Global HS student panel will be available for 8th graders to ask questions to learn more about Global HS through the lens of Global students.
December
- The district will notify all 8th-grade parents through Parent Square that the application is live and ready for future Global students to apply.
- Information Night #2
December & January
- Parent Square and Social Media Global HS advertising blasts to all 8th-11th grade students in the district.
February
- 8th Grade Tour to Global HS
March, April, and May
- Student and Parent onboarding meetings will be held for students who have applied to Global HS.

Communication Plan

The Global High School Communication Plan targets identified audiences, parents, community members, the school board, higher education personnel, etc.

Parents

Open house: Parents meet with our teachers and are introduced to our clubs and organizations here on campus.
Parent nights: Scheduled for the beginning of the school year, divided by grade level.
Parent conference day: Scheduled for the second half of the day on the day of Homecoming.
Junior High Parent Nights: Scheduled three times a year for junior high parents to tour the building and ask questions about the Global High program.
Parents are also invited to school performances:
- Drama: One-act Play, Theater class play
- Open House for Potential Global Students
- Monthly PTO meetings 1^st Tuesday of the month (On and off-campus)

Community Members

We have an outreach to several organizations within the city:

Rotary: Presentations – once a month, service ventures, Students of the month
Lions Club: We support the district's EyeGlass Giveaway, which is sponsored by the Lions Club and administered on our campus each year.
City Council: Monthly student of the month and honorary City Council Member.
Radio Talks: Each semester, the principal goes to the local radio station to discuss upcoming activities and open enrollment periods.

School Board

Global will typically present once or twice a year to the Board on new offerings or when asked for information. The superintendent and School Board determine presentations. The number and frequency vary from year to year. At least once a year, we honor teachers for their commitment to WISD and our students. We also introduce and honor our students who perform well on the PSAT and become National Merit Scholars.

Enrollment Documents

Bring the following documents to enrollment:

Student's birth certificate or passport
Student's social security card (This is optional but requested)
Student's immunization records
One parent's or guardian's driver's license
Records from the previous school (report card, transcript, STAAR/EOC scores, withdrawal grades, homeschool documentation)
Any legal documents related to the custody or guardianship of the student
A one-page essay by the student on "Why I Am Interested in Attending Global High"

Interview & TSI Testing

During the interview with the principal, the students and parents will learn about our school's programs. Our students begin taking dual credit courses during their freshman year of high school through our partnerships with Navarro College in Waxahachie and the University of Texas at Tyler. The interview gives the parents and students a chance to ask questions about our programs and explain any special circumstances or needs that a student may have. Following the interview, Global High will contact the parents about TSI testing for the student. The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a test that all students in Texas must take before taking college-level classes. The TSI testing session will be scheduled during the summer, either at Global High School or the Navarro College campus in Waxahachie. Students do not have to pass the TSI test on their first try, but they need to take the test before being accepted to Global High School. Once all the admission requirements have been met, the parents will receive an email letter of acceptance to Global High to confirm the student's enrollment for the fall semester.
